Recap and impressions of day 1.
The Overall Mission of The Summit
The Speakery Summit is a How-to Summit. The aim is to unpack our process and show each of our delegates how to apply it in their pitches, presentations, or press interviews. They go up the mountain with OK skills. They come down from the Summit with a toolkit for peak presentation performance.
The Summit's Promise
I'm making a promise to everyone who buys a ticket to the Summit. I promise that they will go home with answers to the presentation problems they came up with. Questions like:
- How do I translate the complexity of my business into simple and engaging stories?
- How do I become a better presenter?
- How can better storytelling help me win better customers?
- How can I build better, more effective presentations and pitches?
- How can I impress audiences, investors, journalists or customers?
Masterclasses (Emma & Sam)
I've programmed you both with 90 minutes for your masterclasses. Please let me know what you are planning and your technical requirements.
Sparks and Stars Lecture (Julia)
Julia, you have a 45-minute slot at the end of day one. You will talk through sundown and into the darkness of a starlit night. You will be well-lit and perfectly wired for sound. There will not be a screen. The only thing behind you will be mountains. No need for slides. You don't need them anyway.
Curated Conversation (Milka, Magdalena, Cristina, Vimal, Florian, Sebastian, Tim, Rishi)
This format is slightly unusual. You will take part in a guided conversation, during which we will explore the complexities of how you tell your stories. There is no need for you to prepare a presentation, but I would like you to send me five images that have meaning to you and your world. The conversations will be guided by these five images and the following questions:
- What is the complexity of your world, and how do you translate it into presentations, films, characters, stories, pitches, scripts, clothes or videos that a broader audience can enjoy and understand?
- What or who inspires your approach?
- What kind of impact are you looking to create?
- What is the biggest storytelling challenge you face?
- What can we steal from you? How can we copy your approach?
Please pack these images into a ppt and send them to me by email by 1st September.
The Direttissima Sessions (Marcus)
I'll be unpacking everything you say in the Direttissima Sessions, which are interactive blocks with a workshop vibe. This is where I ensure that I keep the Summit's promise.
If you have any questions about your sessions, please book a 30-minute briefing, and we can go through any questions or concerns you may have.
Travel by air.
Please let me know when you are arriving and need to leave. Please provide dates and times. For those of you flying to Salzburg, please provide flight numbers and times for both arrival and departure. A shuttle service (that might look like Marcus John Henry Brown) will collect you.
Travel by train.
Please don't travel by train. Just don't. A train from Munich will take you 2 hours, with the last leg being a bus. If you need to travel by train, please consider travelling to Munich, and we'll organise a car. If you're travelling from Berlin consider flying to Salzburg airport instead (which will take an hour and five minutes with Eurowings).
Travel by car.
We need to keep the amount of cars at the Summit to an absolute minimum. Please park your car in Ruhpolding. There's plenty of parking there. Let us know when you arrive, and someone from the Summit team will collect you from the Summit Base Camp (see locations) by shuttle.
Sharing is caring – so please let me know if there is space in your car for one or two other people.
Please give me as much information as you can about how you're coming, when you'll be arriving and when you need to leave.
The Summit Team will take care of your accommodation. Not everyone can stay at Wandl, but we have a beautiful partner hotel. You will not need to book anything.

Milka, Magdalena and Sebastian, please confirm whether you would like me to reserve a room. Day 1 will end at 22:00hrs, and I wasn't sure if you wish to travel back to Munich, bzw. Salzburg. Just let me know, and the Summit team will update you accordingly.
Locations & Important Phone Numbers
There are two locations that you need to be aware of.
- Summit - Wandl Klausmeisterhof. This is where the main conference will take place.
- Base Camp - Wandl Cafe. This is where each day begins. If in doubt, aim for the Base Camp, call the hotline, and Summit Rescue will pick you up.

I can't eat wheat, and my trousers explode if I eat or drink dairy.
Please let us know what you can't eat, might make you swell or what might kill you. Whether it's peanuts or bee stings – let us know if you have any medical conditions or serious allergies that we should know about.
I don't care what anybody else says—the weather is going to be awesome.
The sunshine is beautiful but also brutal in the Alps. That means you should pack your factor 50 sunscreen, a nice hat, and light, comfy clothes. Vimal, you have that lovely linen suit. Pack it. That said, it will quickly cool down in the evenings, so a nice jumper or woollen janker might come in handy, too. OK, and maybe pack mac, just in case.
I'm producing a newspaper for the Summit and would like to include you in it.
It would be wonderful if you could fill out this form.
